Powershop partners with UPowr to offer customers a new way to buy solar
Select Powershop customers in Victoria now have the opportunity to switch to solar through a new digital experience, following the launch of a pilot program between Powershop and UPowr.
Launched through a direct email campaign, Powershop customers are invited to request a solar quote from UPowr to understand what solar could do for their home and their energy bills.
UPowr, a tech company looking to shake up the residential solar and battery industry, generates tailored solar quotes through the UPowr platform.
Through the platform, customers are able to see their roof with solar and understand how much energy the solar system will generate. Thanks to this partnership, the platform also analyses their past energy consumption to provide an estimate on how much they’re likely to save with solar.
UPowr Chief Information Officer and Co-founder Daniel Friedman said that providing simplified insights with the best data available was core to the UPowr offering.
“Regardless of what’s driving you to get solar, homeowners should make the decision with the best insights available. We’re yet to see companies in the residential solar industry provide the level of insight and accuracy we can before installation,” he said.
“While the industry reviews how best to give customers access to their energy data – retailers like Powershop, who already provide transparency in usage data, are best placed to ensure homeowners have the richest insights to make well informed decisions through our platform.”
Providing a completely digital experience, UPowr is also looking to change the way customers interact with the installation process, with Chief Marketing Officer Kiya Taylor stating that it’s time the experience changed.
“Whether it’s ordering an Uber, booking an Airbnb, signing up to a neobank or purchasing furniture through a platform like Koala – so much of our life is now completely digital, not phone based. There’s no reason that making a decision to purchase new and exciting technology like solar and batteries shouldn’t be digital as well.”
Head of Program Innovation at Powershop, Lachlan Simpson believes that this partnership firmly aligns with Powershop’s goals to support the uptake of renewable energy.
“At Powershop, we’re committed to supporting the uptake of clean energy and technology in Australia. The concept of providing customers with their solar potential in relation to their usage is important to us because it enhances transparency and provides an opportunity for our customers to see what solar could do for them.” Lachlan said.
Launched in early February, the pilot will run until the end of June 2020 with the intention to offer this service to 2,500 customers.
